As we discussed in our previous blog post about leather and vegan alternatives, there are a myriad of options available, making the process of finding the right material a meticulous and tricky task. However, at LOTTA LUDWIGSON, we love embracing challenges!
To bring you high-end, stylish, and circular new pieces, we have partnered with MELINA BUCHER, a luxurious vegan handbag brand eponymously named after its founder, known for using a clever combination of traditional craftsmanship, next-generation bio-based leather-like materials, and singular creativity. Melina's approach to transparency, as well as her commitment to slow luxury and sustainable fashion, resonated with us, fueling a shared dream. First plastic free alternative to leather in the world, MIRUM®stands out as a low-carbon, bio-based, non-toxic, and naturally circular premium material.
Highly customizable to suit the designer's needs, this forward-thinking material has the aesthetic without the plastic, and uses a combination of virgin natural materials and upcycled agricultural side-streams. Made from natural rubber, plant oils and waxes, natural pigments, and minerals, MIRUM® is long-lasting and durable, while also recyclable and biodegradable.
Because no additional water input is required during the manufacturing process, there is no wastewater discharge caused, which is one of the many environmental advantages over traditional leather fabrics.
